Devin R. Lucas
REALTOR® | Real Estate Attorney | Broker-Associate, Coldwell Banker Global Luxury
Devin R. Lucas is a distinguished Real Estate Attorney, Broker, and REALTOR® with over two decades of experience representing clients throughout Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, and Coastal Orange County. Ranked among the Top 1.5% of real estate professionals nationwide (per RealTrends Verified 2025), Devin is also a Coldwell Banker International President’s Circle award recipient and a past Newport Beach Association of REALTORS® “REALTOR® of the Year” honoree, among other distinguishing accolades.
A recognized leader in luxury real estate, legal strategy, and tax planning, Devin specializes in family real estate transfers, trustee and estate sales, gifting, Proposition 19 compliance, and capital gains strategies. His multifaceted approach provides clients with seamless integration of legal counsel, tax guidance, and brokerage services.
Devin works with a diverse clientele including trustees, families, investors, executives, and high-net-worth individuals—including celebrities and first-time buyers alike. He is widely known for his practical insight on Proposition 19 (and prior Propositions 58, 193, 60, and 90), LLC formation and maintenance, and real estate tax considerations and strategies, offering solutions that balance generational wealth planning and compliance.
In addition to his sales and legal practice, Devin operates a boutique property management business in Newport Beach and Costa Mesa, where he manages select local rental properties—including several he owns personally. This dual perspective provides him with firsthand insight into the practical and legal challenges facing landlords, tenants, and investors alike.
In addition to his legal and real estate credentials, Devin is deeply involved in professional and civic leadership. He is a past Director of both the California Association of REALTORS® and the Newport Beach Association of REALTORS®, where he currently chairs the Professional Standards Committee. He is also a past Chair of the Orange County Bar Association’s Real Estate Section and serves as a panel mediator for the California Association of REALTORS® Mediation Center. See additional credentials and involvements below.
Devin’s multifaceted background, encompassing legal, real estate, property management, and tax expertise, positions him as a trusted advisor and advocate for his clients. His mission is to exceed client expectations by providing comprehensive guidance and strategic planning tailored to their unique real estate needs.
Legal Background:
Mr. Lucas has extensive litigation, trial and appellate experience representing homeowners, landlords, tenants, buyers, developers, contractors, homeowners associations, HOA boards and property managers.
Mr. Lucas has been involved in hundreds upon hundreds of real estate lawsuits, pre-litigation disputes, transactions, sales, lease agreements, mediations, arbitrations, countless court hearings and depositions, including multiple matters through jury trials, post-trial attorney fee award proceedings, and various appeals, including several jury trials and appeal hearings involving multi-million dollar claims, seven and eight-figure property disputes, and, Mr. Lucas’ favorite success story, a $97,090 attorney fee award issued to Mr. Lucas’ clients as the prevailing parties in an Orange County landlord-tenant dispute surrounding a modest security deposit and preposterous claims of damage from the landlord that never should have been brought, which serves as an exceptional cautionary tale on the dangers of litigation, especially over amounts that are easily eclipsed by the potential costs (and recovery) in attorney’s fees.
Personal Life:
When not assisting clients, Devin enjoys spending quality time with his family and engaging in outdoor activities such as cycling, hiking, skiing, camping, and trips to Yosemite. Devin and his wife and partner, Courtney, are actively involved in their daughters’ education within the exceptional Newport-Mesa Unified School District, where Courtney previously served as Chair of the Kaiser-Woodland Parent Faculty Organization. Together, they support and sponsor numerous school and community events, including the annual Woodland and Kaiser Elementary Jog-a-Thon and the school’s annual charity pickleball fundraiser. Devin also participates in “Adventure Guides” (formerly Indian Princesses) through the Newport-Mesa YMCA with his daughters.
He is deeply committed to promoting homeownership and supporting his community, reflecting his dedication to making a positive impact in both personal and professional spheres.
