If you own property in California, it’s that time of year again, mark your calendar! The second installment of your 2024-2025 property tax bill is due by April 10, 2025. Missing this deadline could result in hefty penalties—as much as 10% of your tax bill plus additional costs.
If payments are not received or postmarked by April 10, expect an automatic 10% penalty plus additional fees.
Avoiding Late Fees and Penalties
- Mailing Your Payment: Ensure it’s postmarked by April 10, 2025. Don’t assume dropping it in the mailbox on April 10 is enough—double-check post office schedules!
- Paying Online: Most counties accept electronic payments until 11:59 p.m. on April 10. Check with your county treasurer’s website for details.
- County Reminders: Orange County property owners can sign up for email or text reminders at octreasurer.com/securedreminders. But remember, it is ultimately your responsibility—the county will NOT send a personal reminder (and not getting the bill is unfortunately no excuse for non-payment).
What If You Didn’t Receive a Bill?
Property tax bills are sent out in the fall, but not receiving one does NOT excuse you from paying. If you haven’t received yours, check your county’s tax collector website. Orange County property owners can search for their bill at www.octreasurer.com.
Why Timely Payment Matters
From Newport Beach to Costa Mesa, Corona del Mar, and Newport Coast, property values are high, and so are tax obligations. A single late payment could mean thousands in penalties. Stay ahead and make sure you’re paid up before April 10.
